Back in the late 90s, when I was at Mundicolor Iberia, I eliminated the hard copies of the hotel vouchers and even create a virtual edition of Hotel Color booklets. I also eliminated the price of the brochures and created «dynamic brochures», where the only description of the travels was permanent. But 20 years later the global situation has not improved too much. It is pathetic to see that in the digital era millions of brochures are still printed and physical vouchers and boarding passes are yet printed and distributed (regardless they are printed at home). Not less pathetic is to see that daily hundred of millions of newspapers are printed and every year millions of books are printed and distributed. Not to mention invoices and another kind of documents.
The environmental cost for our planet (deforestation and pollution) is totally unacceptable and there are no real essential benefits from using paper, it is just an acceptance of the laziness and reluctance to change of part of the population. And with the low cost of digital devices and powerful connectivity, there is no excuse for keeping the paper in our lives. It is time to force the elimination of paper in our lives in all industries, beginning with the Travel Industry.
